THE BODY AS INTERACTIVE ART

Shira

We are all just electrical impulses and connections so seeing our bodies as interactive artworks is not such a leap in understanding. Artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s installation at the Sundance Film Festival 2013 New Frontier is a life-size and larger-than-life exhibition, combining images projected on walls, and generated by sensors that interact with the viewers. The Pulse Index records heart rates and fingerprints of participants, shown in these photos, colorized and magnified, in a beautiful Finbonacci pattern, to form a pixelated effect surrounding us. By placing your finger in the special sensor, your fingerprint appears in the main tile, as it pulsates to your own heart beat. The display collects all participants’ prints touching us all with the warm art of humanity.
