BEAUTIFUL WILD FILMS NOW
The New York WILD Film Festival is the first annual documentary film festival in New York to showcase a spectrum of topics, from exploration and adventure to wildlife and the environment, bringing all things WILD to the most urban city in the world.
Check out some of our favorites from 2016. And stay tuned for their upcoming 2017 lineup.
UNBRANDED
Saddle up for a wild adventure with “Unbranded,” a new documentary film by Phillip Baribeau, that tracks 4 men and 16 wild mustang horses on a very wild ride, from border to border through the American West.
The men, recently graduated college buddies, realize how much they don’t know about the wilderness, but they press onward, navigating 3000 miles of beautiful rugged terrain, from Mexico to Canada.
MERU
“Meru” is a chronicle of three American climbers' numerous attempts to scale 21,000 feet of the mighty Himalayan peak, the magnificent Shark's Fin of Mount Meru.
Filmed by Jimmy Chin, one of the climbers, “Meru” is both a spiritual and physical journey. The climbers face treacherous obstacles, suffer heartbreaking personal losses, and grapple with crises of faith.
The spectacular beauty of the film is not limited to the landscape. It is a key attribute in the unwavering and deep friendship among the climbers and in their persevering characters.
DEGREES NORTH
Being wild is being free. “Degrees North,” Xavier de le Rue's latest film, follows his snowboard mountaineering expeditions to the 79th parallel north, just shy of the North Pole.
De Le Rue, and his companions, Samuel Anthamatten and Ralph Backstrom, are freeriders, afficianados of a new sport enabled by new technology.
Freeriding is a style of snowboarding performed on natural, un-groomed terrain, without a set course, goals or rules.
JUMA OF ITANDA
Juma of Itanda, a new film by from Tommy Penick, presents a compelling “story of humanity, hope and the fate of a mighty river.”
The story follows Juma Via Kalikwani, as he develops his passion for whitewater.
THE SOUL OF THE ELEPHANT
The “Soul of the Elephant,” by award-winning filmmakers and wildlife conservationists Dereck and Beverly Joubert, celebrates the wild essence of these beautiful creatures.
