SAVING BEAUTIFUL FORESTS NOW
NATIONAL FOREST FOUNDATION
Beauty is in danger. Many forces, from human contribution to natural disaster can take it down. Forests, among the most beautiful things on Earth, are a prime example.
The National Forest Foundation aims to protect and preserve the beauty of forests in the United States. Founded in 1993, it unites local communities to support its mission.
The National Forest Foundation Reauthorization Act, recently passed in the House of Representatives, reauthorizes the National Forest Foundation so it will have the resources it needs to protect and restore the 193-million-acre US national forest system.
Forests not only make life more beautiful, they sustain life itself. They create and clean the air we all breathe and offer a seemingly endless array of resources. But these resources need proper management and stewardship.
With the help of over 120 thousand volunteers, the NFF has restored or maintained over 14,000 miles of trails, planted almost 4.4 million trees and shrubs, surveyed over 3,000 miles of streams, and restored over 117,000 acres of wildlife habitats.
Here is some of the beautiful bounty you can find in the US National Forests:
- 9,126 miles of scenic byways
- 148,295 miles of trails
- 4,418 miles of wild and scenic rivers
- 5,107 campgrounds
- 1,200 boating sites
- 328 natural pools
