THE GEOMETRY OF SPIRIT & LIGHT
1. SAGRADA FAMILIA.
In mankind’s quest to create an ordered understanding of our universe, the construct of geometry has been used by many religions and spiritual believers to be a divine order. We’re taking a look at 10 of the most beautiful examples of this today. (There are so many more -- but no room here!)
The idea of Sacred Geometry had been used to design churches, temples, mosques, and other places of worship. Sacred Geometry is central to the design of many spiritual and religious objects, furnishings, and landscapes. It’s found in religious and ritualistic art.
Geometric shapes, relative proportions, and certain related numbers were and still are believed, by many religious and spiritual practitioners, to have symbolic and sacred meanings.
The number 3 is a common example, in which triangles, triads, trifectas, pyramids, and triliogies are all considered divine trinities.
4. BISHOP’S EYE, LINCOLN CATHEDRAL
People only had to look to nature to find explicit examples of geometry. And because so many beautiful biological, geological, chemical, physical, and astronomical parts of the universe exhibit geometric shapes, many figure that some higher level creator had to have something to do with planning all of it.
Plutarch attributed the belief that geometry is a divine design to Plato, writing "Plato said God geometrizes continually." (Convivialium disputationum, liber 8,2)
Johannes Kepler (1571–1630), believed that the cosmos was an example of geometry in divine design.
As a natural extension of this belief system, geometric shapes and ratios were incorporated into ancient Egyptian, Indian, Greek, Roman, Islamic, and Chinese architecture. It carried through to Medieval European cathedrals.
Many indigenous and ancient cultures use geometric designs, such as mandalas and yantras, extensively in ritualistic decoration and plan.
Whether or not there is a God or spiritual force behind these designs, there is no denying that they are extraordinarily beautiful and awe inspiring. And for that reason alone, we believe in the power of sacred geometry.
And whether or not you believe, it is so worth the trip to go and visit these and other Beautiful Geometry temples. They will totally move you, one way or the other.
