The pomegranate (Punica granatum) fruit is like a jewel, with its shiny vivid arils, or juice sacs. The pip at the core of each aril contains up to 20% oil, by weight. Loaded with polyphenol antioxidants, vitamins A, C, E, the oil can inhibit inflammation, ward off wrinkles, and a host of other gifts for your body.

About 80% of the oil is punicic acid, one of the few plant-based omega-5 fatty acids. It also contains a form of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) which has been shown to lower triglycerides and reduce cholesterol as reported in the British Journal of Nutrition.

Pomegranate seed oil also contains phytoestrogens, which have been shown to improve menopausal symptoms, as recently reported in the journal Menopause.
