THE BEAUTIFUL MADNESS OF FANTASY NOW
LISA ERICSON
Extreme folly, one definition of madness, is what we see in Lisa Ericson’s imagery.
Ericson’s is a beautiful madness. The artist, illustrator, and designer paints hyper realistic contemporary chimera -- images of imaginary animals.
Her latest series merges fish together with coral. At first blush, it seems as though fish are swimming among small pieces of the reef, but looking closer, fish and coral are intricately integrated.
Like fanciful inter-species hybrids, these brightly colored detailed subjects swish with life, starkly contrasting with their black backgrounds.
The series is painted in acrylic on wood.
Based in Portland, Oregon, Ericson studied painting at Yale.
