Would you knowingly risk your life to go to school? Would you defy death threats just so you could get an education?

At age 15, Malala Yousafzai, was shot in the head by the Taliban on her way to class in Pakistan. Miraculously, she survived. And remarkably, she has risen up to take a strong stand, in the face of death threats to herself and her family, publicly advocating for the education of girls everywhere.

She won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for her brave and passionate efforts.

Unfortunately 62 million girls, face these dilemmas every day because extremist groups, such as the Taliban, ISIS, and Boko Haram, have declared war on their education. It is a tragedy and a travesty, not only for the girls and their communities, but for the entire world.

Malala has made it her mission to fight for these girls and their right to be educated. Her Malala Fund has already undertaken significant efforts on their behalf, including her recent establishment of the Malala Yousafzai All-Girls School in Lebanon, for Syrian and Jordanian refugees, as well as supportive visits to at risk schools around the world.

In response to the abduction of Nigerian girls and the continued plight of girls in that country, the Malala Fund has also recently created alternative education programs for out-of-school and married girls in Nigeria.

Inspired by Malala’s efforts, US First Lady Michelle Obama recently announced her 62 Million Girls Campaign, part of her Let Girls Learn initiative, to raise awareness and take action to ensure education for girls around the world.

Today is International Day of the Girl, declared by the UN as a day when activist groups come together to highlight, discuss, and take action to advance education and all rights and opportunities for girls everywhere.

And this weekend also touts the release of Malala’s new must-see film, He Named Me Malala, an important documentary about her life and her efforts, directed by award-winning filmmaker Davis Guggenheim, produced by Walter Parkes, Laurie MacDonald, and Davis Guggenheim. See the trailer here.

We’re inspired and compelled to support Malala’s fight for education. Join us! Donate, and pledge to see her film.
