BEAUTIFUL EVENTS WEEK OF 08.16.13
SkyNights at Mount Lemmon SkyCenter & Mount Lemmon Sky Ride
Now through September 02, 2013
Mt. Lemmon, AZ
Explore Arizona’s natural beauty in it’s night skies from the summit of Mount Lemmon, using the Arizona’s largest public telescope. For the next two weeks you can view spectacular sunsets, atmospheric phenomena, and heavenly bodies all in a nighttime summer breeze.
During the day, take a Sky Ride on the Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley ski lift. The Sky Ride to the summit and back takes about one hour, and travels from 8,200 feet in elevation to 9,100 feet in elevation, so it’s nice and cool here. Watch for wildlife and summer birds.
The Sky Ride is located a 30-mile drive north of central Tucson, on the slopes of Mount Lemmon in the Coronado National Forest.
Cool Summer Nights at Desert Museum
Now through August 31, 2013
Tucson, AZ
Another night time Arizona wonder is being offered by the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, where you’ll see the Sonoran Desert’s incredible nocturnal wildlife in action after sundown on Saturday evenings for the remainder of August.
Treat yourself to an evening of pollinating bats, stars in Tucson’s night sky, lightning photography, fluorescent minerals, kissing bugs, and more. You can see more about the nocturnal pollinators in our post, Naked Beauty Out Loud.
When you are not listening to the critters chirp and chatter, you can enjoy Native American flutes serenading your visit. Each night has a different theme and related set of activities. Check out the schedule and details at The Desert Museum.

The United Kingdom has just turned into one giant art gallery for the next two weeks. You’ll be able to walk or drive just about anywhere and, instead of seeing advertising billboards and bus stop posters, you’ll see art from 57 top British artists.

Art Everywhere is a collaborative initiative between the Guardian UK, the Tate Museum, Richard Reid (Innocent Drinks), Clear Channel Communications, CBS Outdoors, Primesight, JC Decaux, the Art Fund, Vizeum, Blippar, Artsmedia People, Posterscope, Easyart, 101 Creative Agency and Ocean. It’s goal is to celebrate the great art of Great Britain and bring it to the people, displaying it on over 22,000 sites around the country. It’s the largest exhibition ever created. This means that over 90% of the UK's adult population, from the top of Scotland to the south of England, to the greens of Ireland and Wales, will enjoy beautiful art instead of advertising for these two precious weeks of summer.

The people of Great Britain did a lot to make this happen. The cost of printing and producing the posters was largely crowd-funded. And, the public voted for their favourite artists and works from a long list of art in UK public collections. The British countryside and city streets are a lot more beautiful to travel through now, so go see it now before it’s gone.
