GIFTS FOR BEAUTIFUL BODIES & MINDS

PULSE RING & IPHONE APP

Pulse measures your heart rate and glows to let you know how you are performing during exercise so you can stay in your optimal zone for health and calorie burn.

No more checking and calculating. Just a glance. A white glow means: Perfecto! Blue means you are below. Red means you are too high. And a vibration means you are seriously overdoing it.

The ring is paired with an accompanying iPhone app for a secondary level of fitness information. It can also connect to your friends and/or trainer so they can coach you better.

Pulse was created by Electricfoxy, a wearable technology design studio and blog, run by Artefact designer Jennifer Darmour. Darmour’s design philosophy, which aims for the intersection of beauty, meaning, and periphery, is evident.

“If we’re asking people to wear technology, it has to be beautiful,” explains Darfour. This, as with all of her designs, aims to be a beautiful and regular part of your lifestyle. Nothing bulky or geeky here. At least not in the concept ring. The prototype, on the other hand, is still focused on getting the technology right, so it’s still in its awkward ugly duckling stage. It's a beautiful gift for the (hopefully) near future.

It looks more like an upscale piece of jewelry or wristwatch vs a piece of athletic equipment.  On the opposite side of the rose gold clasp, the Rose Gold Nike+ FuelBand SE reveals a hi-tech light-up display.

The Fuelband will track your friend's workout, keep them honest, and support their progress, all while looking cool.

LUXES UV MONITOR BRACELET

LUXES Bracelet helps people take control of their UV exposure. The bracelet, made by Canopy Valley, alerts the wearer when they have been in the sun too long.

Skin cancer on the rise, and we all need to be more careful. For anyone who spends time outdoors, this is a gift that could save their skin from exposure to damaging UV rays and, even more importantly, it can save their life.

The UV-activated insert is made of a patent-pending smart material that simulates human skin -- that makes it functional. The bracelet changes color to signal the wearer to either apply sunscreen or get out of the sun.

You can apply a small amount of sunscreen on top the insert. When the sunscreen naturally breaks down by the UV rays, the color will slowly begin to darken to alert users to reapply sun screen.

It can also be used underwater.

The original color restores when taken out of UV exposure.

Inventor Gary Wong was motivated by witnessing the devastating effects of skin cancer among his family and friends. Thank you Gary Wong. This is a true gift.
