LAND ART GENERATOR INITIATIVE

The art of water energy takes shape with entries submitted to the most recent Land Art Generator Initiative (LAGI).

LAGI is a hotbed of innovation and design, marrying aesthetics with renewable energy and water technology, while educating us about the challenges of addressing climate change. Check out some of the most beautiful water-based technology designs in this BN Daily Fix.

CLEAR ORB

“Clear Orb,” conceived and designed by Jaesik Lim, Ahyoung Lee, Jaeyeol Kim, & Taegu Lim, of South Korea, is a 40-meter diameter glass sphere that can produce fresh water from the sea, and provide energy to a city’s electrical grid.

It appears to float on the surface of the ocean, reflecting the surrounding landscape as it glitters. Its surface is clad with transparent luminescent solar concentrators, which supply power to circulate the distill the water.

It acts as a wave power generator as it is installed along the existing breakwater. It can produce 3,820 MWH and 2.2 million liters of drinking water per year.

PIPE

“Pipe,” conceived and designed by Khalili Engineers, of Vancouver, is a solar powered sculpture that turns seawater into fresh drinking water. It looks magnificent as it floats off the coast, “reminding us about our dependence on water and about our need to appreciate and value this vital gift.”

“Pipe” generates 4.5 billion liters of drinkable water from the ocean annually via electromagnetic filtration.
