ASTONISHINGLY BEAUTIFUL WALL SURFACES
Beautiful invisibility has been a recurrent theme this week on BeautifulNow, although not intentionally. We serendipitously discovered this gorgeous image of a body camouflaged by a new wallcovering, called “Ingrained (HIN-08*).” It’s a new design, shrouded in a bit of secrecy. Tri-kes, the manufacturer, isn’t saying much about it on its website, or anywhere else. “Ingrained (HIN-08*)” is part of Tri-kes’ Source One Handcrafted Collection and the company claims that it can be seamlessly overlaid on irregular surfaces, as illustrated in their photo above.

Another body on a wall shocks in a different way. Artist, Saturno Buttò, designed “Maia II,” a wallcovering featuring his erotic drawings, for a new company, Inkiostro Bianco, as part of their edgy tattoo-inspired “Ink Rouge” series. Shown here, bringing a fetishistic beauty to an otherwise ugly industrial warehouse, this is one of the company’s mind-blowing examples of marrying old-world artistry and outrageous contemporary design themes, together with cutting-edge digital technology. While this particular design isn’t likely to show up in many living rooms or dens, Inkiostro Bianco has come out of the gate with a spectacular portfolio of designs that are truly breathtaking, many of which you can envision as your own personal backdrops.

Ink is used differently in “Ballpoint Pen Repeat,” a new wallcovering designed by Alissia Melka-Teichroew (byAMT) for Rollover. At once, a scribble and a pattern, you can see both the fury and the discipline of the the scribbler. The loopy inked lines form a kind of punky lace that forms a gradient, dense and dark near the floor, delicate and airy at the top. This is not just a kid “decorating” a wall with reckless abandon, as many do with their crayons, markers, and pens. This is a sophisticated, yet playful homage to childhood, in which we see many possibilities.
Surface beauty might be only skin-deep, but it can inspire far greater depths, as these extraordinary new wallcoverings do.
