A BEAUTIFUL FISH SWIMS TO BROADWAY
Tim Burton’s fantastical “Big Fish” is swimming to Broadway and we can’t wait. The 2003 film was filled with wonder and romance thanks to the visionary art direction of Robert Fechtman, Richard L. Johnson, Jean-Michel Ducourty, Jack Johnson, and Roy Barnes. The story, based on Daniel Wallace’s novel Big Fish: A Novel of Mythic Proportions, follows Edward Bloom’s eventful life as recounted to his son Will Bloom. His adventures are perfect for the flashy Broadway stage (the elder Bloom’s tall tales include werewolves, a traveling circus, endless fields of daffodils, one-eyed witches, sequined draped conjoined twins, and even a giant).
The musical will be the first Tim Burton film to transition to the stage. It is slated to open with a five week preview at Chicago's Ford Oriental Theater in April 2013 and move on to New York's Neil Simon Theatre in October 2013. "Big Fish" will star two-time Tony award winner Norbert Leo Butz as the charming Edward Bloom.
