CONTEMPORARY ANCIENT: NATIVE PORTRAITS NOW

Native Americans developed cultures and traditions often based on a strong sense of aesthetics. It is evident in their sense of design, both material and spiritual.

Award-winning photographer Dave Brosha captured the incredible beauty exhibited by an indigenous Mi’kmaq warrior and dancer in “Warrior: Fire and Ice,” a series of stunning portraits.

Based in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada, Brosha often photographs people indigenous to Canada’s Maritime Provinces.

Brosha considers these to be spiritual images, as his subject dances in the zone -- in the early morning light. They are steeped in deep appreciation for the unparalleled beauty of this native tribe.

The subject in these photos is Danny Boy Stevens, a Mi’kmaq aboriginal native, from Nova Scotia.
