Today, we are featuring emerging artists and photographers who are off to Beautiful Starts. Some are just finishing up their studies at school, while others, newly launched, are already winning a slew of awards. Check them out below.

1. TEAMLAB -- START ART FAIR, LONDON

START, one of London’s fastest growing annual art fairs, showcases contemporary art and design of emerging artists from around the world.

In 2015, START featured work from 23 countries at the Saatchi Gallery. Among the curated projects was the Japanese digital collective, teamLab, self proclaimed “ultra-technologists,” whose immersive work, Flutter of Butterflies Beyond Borders, featured a magical, constantly evolving floral projection presented in a black-box room.

2. HYOJIN PARK -- START ART FAIR, LONDON

Another 2015 START Art Fair new star, Hyojin Park, fascinates us with both concept and execution. Park creates sculptures, drizzles them with multicolored trickles of paint, photographs them, and prints them. They are, at once, sculptures, paintings, and photos  Hyojin’s aches with desire, beauty and unattainable paradise.

3. PASCAL SHIRLEY

Pascal Shirley, named as one of 30 emerging photographers to watch, by American Photo Magazine, tried his hand at fashion photography right after earning an MFA at the California College of the Arts, but it didn’t click. Instead, he got inspired take photos of his friends as they ventured off on road trips in California's backcountry. And he certainly found his beautiful muse.

Already, Shirley has developed a unique way with light and footloose emotion. His images have an otherworldly essence that are at once subtle and powerful.

4. JEREMY UNDERWOOD

In a recent project, called “Human Debris,” emerging photographer Jeremy Underwood calls attention to consumer culture and its impact on Houston’s waterways.

Building artistic sculptures out of beach trash and photographing their interaction with the landscape, Underwood challenges viewers to reflect on pollution, our relationship to the environment and the meaning of art.

5. SYNCHRODOGS

Art duo, Tania Shcheglova and Roman Noven (aka Synchrodogs) are emerging photographers from Ukraine who collaborate on experimental works that blend dreamlike surrealism with natural settings.

“Uncomfortably strange,” is how they describe their art, which explores the tension between man and nature, as well as art and artifice.

6. LAURIE BRICE

Emerging photographer Laurie Brice pursued her passion for nature photography as she transitioned from a career as a biologist to information technology. Her photographs range from landscapes to close-ups of insects and birds.

Brice’s work is featured in a field guide to insects of the cloud forest and at the Museum of Nature & Science, in Dallas.

While she is fairly new behind the lens, Brice is already racking up loads of awards for her brilliant work.

7. R.J. HOOPER

A captain with the St. George Fire Department in Utah, R.J. Hooper placed among top emerging photographers in the nation in the Eighth Annual Emerging Pro Contest.

Hooper is self-taught and spends the majority of his time in and around Zion National Park where he roams the desert searching for rare glimpses of nature at work. He focuses on hidden beauty, often returning to the same spots many times until he finds it.

8. AMANDA CHARCHIAN

LA-based fashion photographer Amanda Charchian confronts the subject of femininity and intimacy in her stylized yet otherworldly portraits of nude women. Her most recent project, Pheromone Hotbox, documents the surreal beauty of her subjects against dramatic backdrops around the world.

In her relatively short time on the scene, Charchian has already garnered a number of prestigious photography awards and her work has been featured in major publications such as VOGUE (Spain), VICE magazine, and Bullet Magazine.

9. CATC DESIGN SCHOOL

Based in Australia, CATC Design School is recognized as a leader in turning out some of the best emerging artists. This past summer’s Mirage exhibition featured 17 photographers, who explored the theme of “Dreams and Visions.”

10. CARLI CHOI

Carli Choi penetrates the dark with the rays of a flashlight and bursts of color to unmask her nocturnal surroundings. Choi, a recipient of the Emerging Photography Award, explains, “I realized that the darkness of night was a canvas of its own and that the flashlight was a brush.”

Taking a painterly approach to her images, Choi tells us about her unique approach, “I started to add color with it just as I would in painting. The darkness of night became a black canvas for me.”

Choi recently graduated from San Francisco Art Institute and has already exhibited her work internationally.
