OLD WORLD + NEW WORLD MARKINGS ARE BEAUTIFUL NOW

PichiAvo

Two street artists from Spain make their marks like no others. Their imagery is part old masters and part urban now. They are PichiAvo and they totally rock.

They render gorgeous trompe l’oeil renditions of imagery like classic Greek sculptures or photorealistic portraits or modern pop, painting onto city walls, using only spray paint. 

And then, they do an extraordinary interpretation of what most street artists do with spray cans, they emblazon the walls with an explosion of throw ups and tags -- graffiti marks. 

It’s a deconstruction combined with brash embellishment. The effect is surreal.

PichiAvo recently opened their first exhibition in Italy titled Urban IconoMythology at Basement Project Room. It runs through May 4, 2015.
