THE ART OF BEAUTIFUL RIDES NOW

Sometimes, when I see an especially beautiful car or bike, or, better yet, get the chance to take one for a beautiful ride, my heart races, my mind is blown, and my smile spreads wide.

Today, we are sharing the works of two artists who have turned cars and bikes into the most incredible works of art, leveraging the physical, emotional, and spiritual motion of Beautiful Rides.

FABIEN OEFNER

Swiss photographer and artist Fabien Oefner moves us with his explosive approach to image making. He is a master of combining science and art to create and capture the motion and drama of sports cars.

One of Oefner’s recent exhibits, State of the Art, is a result of a collaboration with Ferrari, highlighting their latest Grand Tourer, the super-powerful 2015 California T.

Oefner visited Ferrari headquarters in Maranello, Italy, for a test drive, to explore the spirit of this gorgeous car.

One of the most beautiful thrills when driving a fast car, like a Ferrari, is that you fly like the wind. Oefner captures this feeling by blowing a stream of air, at 150 MPH, towards his cars, while simultaneously spraying glow-in-the-dark neon paint in the same direction. The wind-blown paint creates the sense of acceleration, without the car ever moving.

Another one of Oefner’s series, Disintegrating, gets into the guts of Beautiful Rides. He dismantled cars, piece by piece, arranging the bits to create the illusion of an explosion.

In the series Hatch series, Oefner interpreted the concept of the birth of a car. He surrounded a model Ferrari GTO with a gypsum shell, then smashed it, creating an image of the car breaking out of its egg.

GREGG ROCHESTER

Artist Gregg Rochester uses bicycles as his canvasses.

His beautiful and vibrant designs are inspired by beautiful patterns he sees, from African tribal prints, to Northern Lights, to the textile designs of Italian designer, Emilio Pucci.

Rochester spent 40 years working as a psychologist before he began pursuing his passion as an artist. His artist mother was a role model and mentor. He began painting on clothing, creating wearable art, before he took on Beautiful Rides. 

Rochester’s work is displayed in galleries across the country, as well as in institutional and private collections. He was named Wisconsin Artist of the Year by TOSCA (Theater, Opera, Shakespeare, Culture, and Arts,) is a “featured artist” on the National Endowment for the Arts website, and was most recently commissioned by the Minneapolis Institute of Art to paint a bicycle for the “Italian Fashion from 1945 to Present” exhibit.
