THE FOOD OF LOVE: ENCHANTING WILD PORTRAITS
KONSTA PUNKKA
When wild meets human, a special magic can ensue, especially if they form a bond of trust and mutual respect. Usually, food is involved.Finnish photographer Konsta Punkka takes enchanting photos of animals as they come close to eat the food he offers them.
Punkka is known as a “squirrel whisperer” for his ability to draw wild animals near, sometimes close enough to touch. Sometimes, they eat from his hand.
But it’s not just squirrels who come to nibble. Birds, foxes, field mice, and deer join Punkka for snacks so he can capture their gorgeous intimate portraits from a unique perspective.
You almost feel as though you can feel the animals’ souls.
Punkka takes great care in keeping his wild subjects safe. He feeds only in small quantities so as not to alter their natural diets and behaviors.
He is exceedingly patient. He returns to the same locations almost daily to earn the animals’ trust. He shoots mainly in early mornings and around sunset.
Punkka (KPunkka) is an Instagram superstar, with almost 1 million followers.
He offers squirrel whispering and wildlife photography workshops in Helsinki Finland. Contact Punkka to find out the schedule and other details via email: [email protected].
