EDIBLE LACE

Eating flowers makes us feel more beautiful, as we are nourished both physically and poetically by them. Queen Anne’s Lace (Daucus carota) has its particular airy charms. Chocolate lace offers a whole other kind of frilly fabulousness.

QUEEN ANNE’S LACE

Also known as “Wild Carrot,” Queen Anne’s Lace is a graceful froth of tiny white clustered together to form lacy umbels. It is native to temperate regions of Europe and southwest Asia, and naturalized to North America and Australia.

The carrots we know and love are cultivars of Queen Anne’s Lace. The roots are edible when young.

The flowers make delectable treats as well. We love them as tempura, with their lacy texture turned into crispy tendrils of herbaceous delight.

Queen Anne’s Lace also makes a beautiful pink jelly. It’s divine on airy biscuits or delicate toast.

Dark chocolate is melted and piped or drizzled into a lacy pattern, sprinkled with dried cherries, chopped dried apricots, and pistachios, before the stick is added to each lollipop. So good! And a bit healthy too!
