FLOATING FLOWER GARDEN -- TEAMLAB

It’s a trip! It’s like walking in heaven’s garden!

Check out the Floating Flower Garden, a beautiful interactive art/tech installation, created by teamLab, a collective of tech specialists, led by Toshiyuki Inoko, in Tokyo.

Over 2,300 fresh flowers are individually suspended from the ceiling of the exhibition room. The flowers move to “greet” the visitors as they approach, triggered by motion, moving upwards to create an air “bubble” above the their heads, and following them as they walk around.

Viewers are immersed in the flowers, becoming one with the garden. It is reminiscent of the Rain Room, with flowers moving as the rain did, in a dance with the audience.

The flowers are alive, growing with each passing day. Their scent grows stronger as symbiotic insects are active nearby, changing throughout the day.

Floating Flower Garden was part of a larger retrospective of teamLab’s work in Tokyo at Miraikan, the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation. It will travel to Maison&Objet, in Paris, for a 20th anniversary celebration, from September 4-8, 2015.

CHRISTOPHE GUINET

Turning shoes in gardens takes a bit of genius, a lot of creativity, and heaps of talent.

Parisian artist, Christophe Guinet, also known as Monsieur Plant, has done just that with his project entitled, Just Grow It!, referencing the iconic Nike slogan.

Guinet transforms sneakers by covering them with bark, sod, and flowers, turning them into miniature gardens, much in the style of the composite portraits made of fruits and vegetables, by Italian painter, Arcimboldo.

The works are clever and beautiful, for sure, but Guinet also hope they can make us think about the gap between consumerism and nature. He also expresses hope that nature’s beauty can win out.

Guinet believes that man is nourished spiritually and artistically by nature. As a teenager, Guinet developed a passion for plants, especially orchids. He became more fascinated by the interrelationship of nature and urban culture and he endeavored to juxtapose the two in his work.

“In the end, nature will always triumph over man,” explains Guinet, ‘because of its strength and its beauty.”
