PERSIMMON: WINTER’S BEAUTIFUL FRUIT

Persimmons are the nobility of the produce aisle. They sit proudly: squat, round, tomato-like fruits wearing tiny brown buds like cheerful crowns. Their skin is smooth, a deep rust color the same shade as desert sunsets and tiger lilies swaying in an August garden.

Winter is the perfect time to enjoy the sweetness of ripened persimmon. It’s delicious cut up and spooned out, raw and unadorned, but if you have the notion (and can stop yourself from digging in long enough to cook), Food52 gathered an incredible list of recipes starring persimmons from cranberry and persimmon filled endive with tangy goat cheese to persimmon snap cannolis.
