BEAUTIFUL RESCUES CAN RESCUE YOU NOW

Penguin Bloom the Magpie by Cameron Bloom.

One of the most beautiful things about a rescue, is that it has an amazing impact on both the rescue-ee and the rescuer. It is certainly true for pet rescues. Check out these incredible stories and images of some of the most wonderful rescues we’ve found today.

1. PENGUIN, THE MAGPIE

A beautiful family gained one more member when they rescued an orphaned female magpie, named Penguin.

Cameron and Sam Bloom live in Newport, Australia, with their 3 children, Reuben, Noah, and Ali. One day, Noah discovered a magpie lying on the ground after it fell from a tree and saw that it was orphaned.

After consulting with a veterinarian, the family learned how to take care of the bird and nursed her back to health. When she was healed, they set her free, but the bird kept coming back home to them.

Every day, Penguin waits for the Blooms to leave the house in the morning before flying away, and then later meets the 3 children when they come home from school.

She plays catch with the children, perches on their heads and shoulders, snuggles, hides in their home when it’s raining, and, even more surprisingly, helps them with their homework! She’s also shown off her human family to other magpies that have followed her into the house.

Cameron captures beautiful candid moments shared with Penguin in these magical, touching photos of this very special and wonderful animal rescue success story.

New York Times bestselling author Bradley Trevor Greive is writing a book about Penguin and the Blooms, accompanied by Cameron’s photography. Look for it, coming soon.

2. PUKA AND ROCKET LARRY

Check out this adorable Insta-famous dog-tortoise duo!

Puka, a Bulldog/Bullmastiff mix, and Rocket Larry, an African Sulcata tortoise, are the best of friends.

They live in Los Angeles with their owner, Christine Hilberg, a 29-year-old photography retoucher, and the rest of her adopted pet family. Hilberg, who volunteers at NKLA, a Los Angeles-based animal adoption center, hopes to raise awareness about the benefits of adopting rescue pets.

These two rescued pets adore each other! From playing dress up to snuggling in a fuzzy blanket, they have lots of fun together!

Hilberg shares Puka’s and Rocket Larry’s exciting adventures with their nearly 20,000 Instagram followers. Check out their Instagram page here. One of their photos was featured on Instagram’s Weekly Fluff.

Hilberg and her friend, Roxy, originally discovered Puka, in 2011, when they saw the dog living on the street with its owner, a homeless man. They noticed the dog’s cleft lip, and became concerned that it might not be receiving adequate care, so they bartered with the man and made arrangements to adopt Puka.

Hilberg rescued Rocket Larry from a reptile hoarder on Craigslist, and promptly named it after comedian Larry David. The loveable tortoise is a bit of a foodie -- he loves eating arugula, strawberries, and dandelions.

Animal rescue is a beautiful cause, both for you and for these beautiful pets! “Rescuing an animal is a beautiful, life-changing adventure,” says Hillberg in her video.
