Ever wonder why sunrises and sunsets look more beautiful in winter? Scientific studies have discovered the reasons.

The gorgeous oranges, pinks, and reds we see staining the sky, at the edge, where dark and light transition, are more dramatic in winter months, when the air is more clear and free from the dulling effects of pollution.

Another contributing factor comes from cirrus and altocumulus clouds which sail high in the atmosphere in winter, reflecting the colored light.

To maximize the sky’s winter artistry, travel to mid-latitude locations, especially Arizona, Hawaii, the Caribbean, where the winter light is about as perfect as can be.

Because the sun rises later and sets earlier in the winter, you have a better chance of seeing the light show live.
