TURNING SCIENCE INTO ART AT LONDON DESIGN FESTIVAL

Beautiful Design is where art and science come together. A few of the most beautiful new examples at last week’s London Design Festival are presented here today.

CLOUDS  JEREMY WINTREBERT

We love the idea of indoor clouds. That’s why Jeremy Wintrebert’s Clouds exhibition at Gallery FUMI as part of the London Design Festival immediately got our attention.

Wintrebert brings a modern approach together with the classical Murano glass-blowing techniques. Born in Paris, raised in Africa and the USA, Wintrebert’s multi-cultural influences are evident, both in style and process.

His new hand-blown glass works and lighting installations are large, ethereal puffs of impossibly thin glass. They look almost paper-like, with their elegant filigrana patterns.

Jeremy Wintrebert's glass work is in the collection of the MUDAC, Lausanne, Switzerland and Kunstsammlungen der Veste Coburg, Germany as well as in many private collections around the world. He has collaborated amongst others with Swarovski, Veuve Clicquot and Calvin Klein.

SKETCH -- FRONT

Sketch, a very cool furniture line from Swedish design studio FRONT, featured at the London Design Festival, is a real manifestation of their simple doodles.

Pen strokes made in the air are recorded with Motion Capture and become 3D digital files. These files are then materialized through Rapid Prototyping into the real pieces of furniture. Check out the video below.

Sketch is on exhibition at the V&A Museum through 11.06.14.

3D PRINTED MIRRORS - IN-SPACES 3D

IN-SPACES 3D showed how 3D printing is starting to make its imprint on design at 100% Design at the London Design Festival.

The innovative design and furnishings company’s latest mirrored collection will focus on the natural movements and formations of light in space.
