ELEVATED FLORA: ANDREW ZUCKERMAN’S FLOWER

The petals look so simple and pure against the stark white background. It belies their complexities. Their fragility and transience are portrayed as strengths, not weaknesses. It is not the lushness, the softness, or the arresting color we love in flowers. It is the alien nature of the familiar that tickles our eyes and stirs us deeply. One of our favorite photographers, Andrew Zuckerman, brings forth a new book, Flower, that portrays the majesty of blossoms, stems, and leaves like you’ve never seen them before.

Celebrating 150 species, Zuckerman interprets pattern and hue, texture and form, light and shadow, in a way that begs you to touch his subjects the way they touch you. Flowers are an easy pick as a subject for art, design, and many forms of pretty expression. However, Zuckerman’s photos cut through the clutter of floral beauty and raise the stakes. This book will bring a beautiful joy to treasure forever.
