COOL COLLABORATIVE DOODLING NOW

ourtesy of the Doodle Project. Doodles from the Doodle Project.

Doodling is mainly an exercise in solo passion. But we found some fabulous new collaborative doodlings that are pretty spectacular.

THE DOODLE PROJECT

The first is the Doodle Project, an incredible collaboration of artists from over 20 countries, led by Dante Zaballa. It began with Zabella’s simple animation of a simply drawn character dancing.

Zabella then invited 62 artists to each redraw 5 individual frames of the original animation. You will see the character change in style and position as the animation rolls -- 62 changes.

Zabella invited fourteen musicians to each write a score for the dance. As the animation runs, you hear a different piece of music.

It’s brilliant really. Some call it “a big collaborative group hug.” With all of its flickering wonder, this doodle-fest is a joy to watch.

DOODLER’S ANONYMOUS

I’m a doodle addict, I admit it. And I’m not alone. Doodler’s Anonymous is where DAs, like me, meet to share their addictions.

We DAs always have a pen, marker, crayon, or pencil nearby. And we will doodle on every possible surface, whenever we get a moment. Napkins, matchbooks, receipts, envelopes, newspapers, desks, ourselves… endless possibilities.

Doodler’s Anonymous was created by OKAT, an illustrator and designer from Miami, in collaboration with Hugo Seijas, a developer who “doodles in code.”  Check out the blog and, if you are a fellow DA, submit your own doodles and join the doodle celebration.

CUP O' DOODLE

When I was a little kid, my brother used to call me Doodlebug. With good reason. I doodled constantly. I even invented a game that I called Doodlebug. I would ask my brother (and later other family and friends) to draw a random doodle, then I would take the pen and turn the abstract shape into something recognizable -- an animal, a flower, a face, whatever I “saw” in the scribble. Then I would create a scribble doodle and they would take their turn at making it come alive. It was fun!

Today, we’ve got Cup O’ Doodle, a blog that posts very loose doodles -- random scribbles and shapes - and invites the community to make sense out of it and turn it in to something that evokes “Oh yeah… I see it now… Cool!”

Community members’ drawings are shown with semi-transparency so it is clear to see the original doodle armature that underlies.

To post, you have to be invited. You can make that happen if you like the facebook page and/or send a message with a link to your blog/tumblr/website.
