Sweet blossoms splash and swirl in dreamy visions in fine art photographer Isabelle Menin’s breathtaking photo montage works.

Menin captures the special beauty that hangs in the twilight zone -- the magic that straddles  reality and dreams.

The painterly quality of Menin’s art is a direct result of her training as a painter, a graduate of Graphic Research School (ERG), in Brussels. But now her images are created through digital photography, layering multiple scanned images together to create surreal landscapes and still lifes.

Taking pictures, scanning pieces of nature, Menin constantly plays with textures and colors, transforming them, mixing them, in order to give shape to a fictional nature, dense and flamboyant at the same time.

There is both a tranquility and turbulence, echoing romance. There is both order and chaos, fantasy and explosion. Light, blur, translucence, opacity, all dance, as if guided by fairies.

Menin takes exceptionally beautiful photos of flowers, scans fragments of the images, then composes incredible photomontages beyond our wildest dreams.

It is evident that Menin began as a painter. Her photos exude a painterly quality, inspired by 15th and 16th Century Flemish Primitives such as Paul Rubens, Jan van Eyck, Hans Memling & Rogier van der Weyden.

Menin’s use of light, texture and color, evoke the most brilliant, yet tender daydreams. She describes her compositions as “Inland photographs and disordered landscapes,” referencing realities within fictional worlds.

Organic forms bloom with technical prowess. The mind drifts with each set of possibilities. We dream of being immersed in Menin’s dreams as she triggers points of departure within our own imaginations.
