SINGAPORE’S BAY SOUTH GARDEN MAKES THE ECOLOGICAL FANTASTICAL
Not only does the plant life of Mediterranean and Cloud Forest regions now thrive in tropical Singapore; a sense of wonder does, too. Bay South Garden, a recently opened conservatory within the Gardens by the Bay project of Singapore’s National Parks Board, is equal parts ecological and magical. The glass and steel structures make up the largest climate-controlled greenhouses in the world, incorporating passive climate control techniques and carbon neutral cooling as they astonish visitors with an indoor waterfall, perpetually flowering meadow, cascading levels of vertical planting, and high level walkways through and above the tree canopy. Bay South Garden was designed by UK architecture firm Wilkinson Eyre in conjunction with landscape architects Grant Associates and engineers Atelier One and Atelier Ten. Its debut earned the Gardens by the Bay project the World Building of the Year Award at the 2012 World Architecture Festival. Learn more about the structural marvel at wilkinsoneyre.com.
