ROMANCE BLOOMS FROM HEARTS OF STONE
JEAN-MICHEL BIHOREL
Romance blossoms in Jean-Michel Bihorel’s beautiful digital sculptures. He expresses his love for both the female form and the art of flowers, as well as their affinity for each other.Combining the traditional sculpture material of marble with dried hydrangea flowers, petals, and leaves, Bihorel fashions a vision of sweet surrender.
In some works, the hard rendered surface of carved, polished marble cracks to reveal a layer of flowers -- they add an “unbearable lightness of being -- mimicking the contrasts of true love.
Some works are completely digitally formed from flowers, so that the weight of a fully formed woman is both fleshy and ethereal.
Bihorel’s works integrate a mix of 3D scanning techniques and procedural modeling, using houdini maya and redshift, to create a sequence of postures.
These digital sculptures are the essence of romance. Next, we want to see them in real, physical 3D. See more of Bihorel’s works here.
