SPRING FLOWERS VIA OUTER SPACE
DAVID LEASER
A flower was just recently grown in space for the first time. Astronaut Scott Kelly planted and tended it, proudly Instagramming his results. And it was spectacular. But award-winning photographer David Leaser has been using space technology for a little longer, and in a different way, with spectacular results of his own.
Using cutting-edge technology, including equipment used by NASA to take images of Mars, Leaser created Nightflowers, a series of large scale botanical images, featuring extraordinary, exquisite detail that truly amazes.
It’s a bee-eye view of the floral world. Pollen glistens on stamens. Tiny hairs stand out of an orchid. One can see an entire ecosystem in a blossom.
Leaser’s images also serve as meticulous visual records.
Many of Leaser’s shots were taken in the depths of the Ecuadorian Amazon.
Flowers sometimes look like solar flares or starbursts, as they flaunt the intense scrutiny of Leaser’s lens.
Leaser has been working on Nightflowers for more than 3 years.
David Leaser’s award-winning artwork is on display and available through a select group of galleries. David Leaser has authored four books, including two photographic monographs.
Leaser’s Tropical Gardens of Hawaii and Palm Trees: A Story in Photographs have received critical acclaim.
