BEAUTIFUL PATTERNS ARE DELICIOUS NOW
FOOD SCANS -- HARGREAVES & LEVIN
Patterns are formed by repetitions -- of anything, including food. Hargreaves & Levin rocked this concept in their brilliant Food Scans series.
Food stylist Caitlin Levin and photographer Henry Hargreaves collaborated to create collection of beautiful kaleidoscopic images of produce, organized by month, to showcase the beauty and bounty of seasonal fruits, vegetables & herbs.
Selecting fruits, herbs, & veggies, picked at the peak of flavor and visual glory, Levin cuts, trims, and arranges them in a configuration on a photo-scanner, according to shapes, texture, color, light, and shadow, then repeats to create visual patterns.
“Simply placed on the scanner, we’re able to see every curve, nook, and cranny in incredible detail—and mirrored images allow us to explore symmetry, natural beauty, and the way imperfections and inconsistencies often become the most breathtaking examples of nature's artistry,” Hargreaves & Levin explain.
The series forms a wonderful “What to Eat Now” calendar of beautiful patterns. The repetition calls more detail to our attention, amplifying the beauty of each element.
Hargreaves & Levin originally met about 10 years ago over “several glasses of rosé” and found they had much in common.
While Hargreaves hailed from New Zealand and Levin from northern California, both were formerly fashion models, both are foodies, both are passionate about photography, travel, and art. They have been collaborating ever since.
Their works push beauty to new edges. See more here.
