BN FAVE: THE COOLEST, MOST BEAUTIFUL PLAYGROUND NOW
Today, we are sharing one of our favorite playgrounds ever created. It’s pretty trippy!
Like something out of Alice in Wonderland’s dream, this larger-than-life kaleidoscope is a trip, and then some.
Designed by Spanish architecture studio A2arquitectos, this giant kaleidoscope is installed on a freestanding pavilion at the children’s leisure area at the Hotel Castell dels Hams, in Porto Cristo, a resort town on the Spanish island of Majorca.
Children and adults can step into this mammoth toy, which is made up of 30-foot hexagonal tunnels clad in 140 reflective acrylic panels. Stairs along the outside enable views from 8 feet high. The whole of it forms one of the coolest playgrounds we’ve ever seen
Lit by sunlight during the daytime and LEDs after sunset, the Magic Kaleidoscope is always sparkling. It’s a totally modern spin on the original 19th century mirrored tubular invention.
The real magic comes from the visitors themselves. Rather than an assortment of colorful beads, shards, and odd bits tumbling around to create the shifting kaleidoscopic designs, the children are the moving colored shapes, as they run, jump, and play inside this mirrored maze.
Each section has its own added motif, like the pink polka-dotted space or the outside-in space.
Colors and shapes flash and move in sextuplet syncopations. The children’s laughter also sounds as if they have been amplified by each other.
