GORGEOUS OCEAN DINING TREASURES NOW

Petit St. Richardson PSR Windward Island, The Grenadines, Caribbean by Lyn Gateley.

We love to have picnics by the sea. Our appetites seem more inspired when we are near the ocean. We found some exceptionally beautiful tableware and vessels to make dining in the salty air an even more beautiful experience.

MARY O’MALLEY

New York-based artist, Mary O’Malley brings the ocean to your table with a stunning series of handmade porcelain tableware, entitled Bottom Feeders, inspired by plants and creatures that call the oceans “home.”

Every piece, from her teapots and pitchers, to her cups, saucers, and plates, are beautifully adorned, encrusted with rich textures and shapes, like those of spindly coral, jagged barnacles, lithely draped seaweed, loopy octopus tentacles, starfish, seashells, and more.

When the pieces are fired, tentacles beautifully warp, barnacles and crustaceans adjust their positions, and the vessels come alive. They are a unique combination of classic elegance and wild, deep-sea beauty.

O’Malley was inspired to create this collection by memories of her childhood beach vacations, as well as her recent move to the seaside. You can see more of her work here!

SEA GREEN HEAVY GLASS BOWL

As if the ocean were captured within, this rare Sommerso monumental Murano heavy glass bowl by Antonio da Ros, for Cenedese, is an incredible beauty. With its geode-like design, and its richly graduating shades of sea green, emerald, and turquoise, this bowl will make a stunning centerpiece, filled with seaside delights. Circa 1970s.

Available at 1st Dibs.

TORTOISE SHELL TEA CADDY

Tortoise shell is no longer a sanctioned material, so antique pieces are in especially high demand.

This fine Regency tortoise shell tea caddy was crafted in 19th century England. Its exterior is richly inlaid with mother-of-pearl flowers, leaves, foliage and paterae. The interior contains the caddy’s original rose velvet linings, two fully-veneered removable caddies, and a beautiful cut glass bowl.

Available at 1st Dibs.

ABALONE BOTTLE OPENER

Check out this gorgeous abalone and bronze fish-shaped bottle opener. The colorful scales are connected by sturdy bronze pins, this articulated piece is engineered to stand on its tailfin! It will make quite a statement on your beach house bar. Circa 1950’s.

Available at 1st Dibs.
