Energy from the sun is a beautiful thing. It’s powerful. It’s clean. It’s free. It’s seemingly endlessly abundant. It’s available to everyone all over the world. And now, thanks to solar start-up Rawlemon, it is super-efficient and super-gorgeous!

Invented by Andre Broessel, a German architect inspired by his daughter’s toy marbles, the Rawlemon design uses a spherical lens to concentrate sunlight on a small photovoltaic (PV) panel and combines this with a dual-axis pivot that tracks the movement of the sun.

While solar energy technology has been developing over the past 40 years, 80% of installed tracking photovoltaic (PV) panels worldwide still have a performance of 15% or lower. And, for panels that don’t track with the sun, the average of annual tilt losses add up to minus 70%.

Thanks to Rawlemon,“We can squeeze more juice out of the sun.” The lens can concentrate the sun’s energy by up to 10,000 times!

Sun Robotics, a division of Rawlemon, has innovated Building-Integrated-Photovoltaics (BIPV) by combining key components of the concentrated solar power plant with a patent pending facade module called the “MICROTRACK.”  

The result is a 99% transparent, fully automated PV/thermal solar capture system that can be seamlessly integrated as a facade/glazing system, or as a built-in device. It is 4 times more efficient than anything else currently available -- even on a cloudy day!

And, better yet, the Rawlemon sphere can concentrate any light -- even moonlight.

The Rawlemon energy technology can be applied for other uses, including charging electric cars, for example.

The Rawlemon sphere technology works for home use as well and can power anything that needs some juice!

Rawlemon is now aiming to apply its technology to the emission of light, creating new and exciting possibilities for lighting sources, media, and building communications systems, such as a transparent, self-sufficient, video wall.

Imagine if cities could self-produce energy. Thanks to Rawlemon and Sun Robotics (aka Sbotic) net zero-energy buildings could be a standard tomorrow.
