SEE A BEAUTIFUL WORLD IN EVERY RAINDROP NOW

When rain showers stop their downpour, the world is cleaner, fresher, and quenched. They also leave magic behind.

And, if you look closely, you will find that many things have been enchanted, left with sparkling drops, clinging to delicate forms, for a brief magnificent moment in time, before the remnant water is consumed or evaporated.

Fine art photographer Miki Asai is fascinated by the aftermath of beautiful rain showers. Using macro lenses, she is able to capture these trailing drops in their most delicate states.

Like mini liquid jewels, the raindrops literally gild the lilies, the roses, the leaves, the stems, the blades of grass, and the webs. Tiny insects navigate gingerly.

Mostly, Asai photographs her subjects in her own backyard on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido. When she zooms in, she finds endless beauty.

Patience is one of Asai’s key virtues. She waits for each ant, each petal, each tendril, each light beam to land in, a perfect position, serving up glistening drops in splendor.

Sometimes, we can see neighboring flowers, as if they were encapsulated within.

“I am trying to show the beautiful world of the small,” Asai says. “I am always surprised when I look through the camera's viewfinder to see things normally unseen.”
