47th Montreux Jazz Festival
July 5 - 20, 2013
Montreux, Switzerland
Considered by many to be the best two weeks in live music every year, the Montreux Jazz Festival opens tonight, July 5, 2013. Montreux is a passion for both musicians and audience alike for its unparalleled array of musical acts from virtually every genre, and its exceptional mix of old-fave and ripping-new talent. And this year’s line up won’t sully it’s reputation. You might choose among Leonard Cohen, Wyclef Jean, Bonnie Raitt, Prince, Green Day, Ben Harper, Joe Cocker, and a boatload of others.

Another reason people love Montreux is for its setting along Lake Geneva. This year, the lakefront has been completely redesigned with a new neon-lit Jazz Strip with bits of homage to the origins of jazz, lovely waterfront restaurants, and bars.
Dozens of acts will make this town hop, from a collection of both closed and open air stages, and some can entertain you on jazz boats that cruise the lake.
The Montreux Jazz Festival was founded in 1967 by Claude Nobs, Géo Voumard, and René Langel, supported largely by the Ertegüns of Atlantic Records. The Montreux Jazz Festival has always been a pinnacle international draw. All the greats you can imagine have played here.

Kew Garden’s IncrEdibles Festival
London, England
Now through November 3, 2013
Across the globe, there is thought to be 70,000 to 80,000 kinds of edible fruit. Have you tried the notoriously stinky durian? How about an atemoya pitabu? BeautifulNow favorite, Kew Royal Botanical Gardens, is throwing a summer long exhibition dedicated to those little known fruits called “IncrEdibles: A Voyage through Surprising Edible Plants.”

“Architectural foodsmiths,” Bompas & Parr, have transformed the Kew’s Palm House Pond into a floating fruit salad. At the center is Pineapple Island, accessible by hiring a Tutti Frutti boat and entering via a secret Banana Grotto beneath the island. Incidentally, definitely take a boat ride while you can—this is the first time pleasure boating was allowed on the pond since 1755!

Visitors can also wander through the Rose Garden Tea Party (created by Kristi Davies & Giles Thaxton) where an enormous variety of edible plants have taken root in teapots, cups, and platters. Or hop from one carrot to another in the surreal Bouncy Carrot Patch.

“IncrEdibles” runs through Sunday November 3rd (the Tutti Frutti Boating Experience ends September 1st). Visit their website for more information.
