THE BEAUTY OF VERTIGO NOW
People often take extreme measures to capture the perfect image. And they’ve developed technologies over time to help them go even further.
Now aerial photos, taken from relatively close range, are possible for the first time, thanks to camera-mounted drones.
Russian photographer team AirPano has pushed their images to higher levels of amazing now that they’ve added drones to their fleet of helicopters, planes, and balloons.
AirPano specializes in aerial views of major cities, such as New York, Dubai, Barcelona, and Paris, as well as rarely seen natural spots of extreme beauty.
Photographers, like AirPano, can now hitch GoPro cameras to personal drones, or use a combo unit like the one made by Lily Robotics, and send them flying, at 25 mph, up high, to a a range up to 100 feet.
And check out some of the best photos posted in 2015 on Dronestragram, a social network specifically for sharing drone photography.
These images offer unique birdseye views of spectacular places around the world.
Some are never before seen perspectives on iconic landmarks and landscapes. Some are nailbiter views, taken above places that were too extreme or treacherous to navigate before, without the drone technology.
A hover over Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro is a sheer thrill.
A seagull’s view of Pillar Bay, in Canada is jaw-dropping.
A fly through the waves gets personal with surfers in the middle of a curl.
And imagine skimming over the top of an active volcano...or into exploding fireworks.
Recent advances in GPS stabilization technology have made a big difference in enabling smooth, clear shots.
With the swipe of a finger across a smartphone, photographers control the image. They can see the live feed right on their phones so they can frame their shots.
"Drones are becoming an increasingly accessible way to get a new perspective on the world," Eric Dupin, CEO of Dronestagram, said in a statement. "There literally are no physical limits as to where a shot can take place anymore."
Drone-camera technology is are changing the way we see and experience our planet.
