A ROOM FOR SOLACE
A ROOM FOR SOLACE: AN EXHIBITION OF DOMESTIC INTERIORS - ALEC SOTH
“When the world is burning, what’s the point of photographing a fireplace?” asks photographer Alec Soth. He answers his own question in his curation of “A Room for Solace: An Exhibition of Domestic Interiors” at The Photography Show, presented by AIPAD 2019.
A home is a place of comfort, a refuge that allows one the space for introspection and rest. It is precisely in our ability to safeguard our personal havens that we know we can overcome the hardships.
This collection of 40 photographs includes images by of some of the greatest names in photography – Diane Arbus, Sally Mann, Dorothea Lange, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Joel Meyerowitz, to name a few. They feature snapshots of intimate personal spaces that serve as source of personal power. Quiet moments by a crackling fireplace and the warmth of loved ones offer a source of solace and resilience in the face of chaos.
Check out Soth’s book, “I Know How Furiously Your Heart is Beating.” And scroll down to see our favorite images from the exhibition.
