BEAUTIFUL REALITY IS ALL IN YOUR MIND AT SUNDANCE FESTIVAL 2016

#100HUMANS
Of course it’s easier to understand and empathize with people of different cultures when you live among them. #100humans a new VR experience, created by Daniel Schechter, Linc Gasking, and Rainer Gombos, lets you live in their worlds, virtually.
This ongoing ethnographic documentary project employs 3-D volumetric capture and video recordings of the subjects within animated environments that reflect their respective backgrounds to produce intimate portraits far beyond what traditional films can do.
Featuring Vine sensation Logan Paul as a gladiator, and Ashley Martin Scott.
CARDBOARD CRASH
New technologies often raise new ethical questions. Cardboard Crash, a new VR Experience, created by Vincent McCurley and Loc Dao, is an animated VR experiment that explores the ethics of artificial intelligence algorithms in self-driving cars.
Ethics get tested in the face of an unavoidable crash. What would you do? You’ll get to test yourself as you are in the passenger seat.
JOB SIMULATOR
What might work feel like in the future? Job Simulator, a new VR experience, by Devin Reimer and Alex Schwartz, puts you in an office cubicle in the future.
You’ll be treated to a unique mix of storytelling, comedy, and intuitive game mechanics. Micro -interactions are what make this reality feel even more real, with the smallest, seemingly insignificant intentions and movements.
VIENS! (COME!)
To say that you become part of the scene in Viens! (Come!), a new VR Experience, directed by Carl Guyenette and Michel Reilhac, would not be really accurate. Rather, you become a voyeur -- a virtual fly on the wall of a polyamorous “dance.”
Guyenette warned me, as he placed the VR headset and headphones on my head, “This is very sexual. I don’t want to offend you.” But in “reality,” for me, even though I found myself in the middle of 7 naked people who have sex together, it was oddly innocuous, pristine, and serene.
WAVES
Burning with originality, intelligence, and a deft use of the medium,
Waves is a virtual reality story, created by comedian Reggie Watts, Luis Blackaller, and Benjamin Dickinson that is a trippy dream-within-a-dream. Filled with musical genius and brilliant insights, get ready for a wild ride.
THE ROSE AND I
You are headed to the middle of the solar system, where you will encounter a beautiful rose, growing on a clay planet, thanks to the love and attention showered upon it by a lonely little boy.
The Rose and I, a VR Experience created by Alex Woo, Jimmy Maidens, and Eugene Chung, formerly of Pixar, Dreamworks, and Oculus, is a handcrafted animation odyssey, where you will come to know loneliness, friendship, love, and loss in a new light.
