AN AMAZING ARMCHAIR KAYAK ADVENTURE AWAITS YOU…. NOW
TOMASZ FURMANEK
Enjoy the thrill and beauty of kayaking adventure via photographer Tomasz Furmanek's stunning photographs.
Furmanek spent 3 years kayaking through the fjords of Norway, documenting his journey with truly breathtaking images.
Furmanek presents the adventurer’s point of view. He uses a helmet-mounted GoPro and a small Sony compact camera on the front of his kayak, so we see what he sees.
Furmanek has to keep absolutely still while gliding slowly in the water to get a good photo without blur.
Visually, the triangular shape of the kayak bow draws your line of focus to the scenery up ahead beyond the tip of the kayak.
Many of Furmanek’s photos showcase the natural beauty of the country, but others feature scenic dwellings witnessed along the way.
There are around 1,190 fjords in Norway, including the Svalbard islands. Each one is unique and captivating in its own right.
Originally from Poland, Furmanek has lived in Norway ever since moving there at the age of 6. He became interested in photography a little over 10 years ago and is self-taught.
Furmanek has also been going on kayaking adventures for over 10 years now. He is fascinated by the dramatic reflections and symmetry in the landscapes.
He currently works in the field of genetics and computer science. Every day, Furmanek takes short trips after work to the fjords. He goes on longer adventures on the weekends, kayaking for maximum 3-4 days. He can paddle 30-40 km per day. For single day trips he paddles about 50 km.
He prefers to glide out in the quiet evenings, in calm waters, with minimal traffic. But some of Furmanek’s images show him traveling through the rough. It’s difficult to get good quality photos in these conditions because the lens often gets wet with salty spray. He always wears a helmet and has a throw rope in case he needs a rescue.
Once he’s taken his fill of photos in Norway, Furmanek plans to kayak through other countries with his GoPro.
