HOW TO CAPTURE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FIREWORKS EXPLOSIONS
HOW TO TAKE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FIREWORKS PHOTOS:
We love the explosions of color and light, wanting the freeze their glory for posterity. It’s not so easy to do. We’ve gathered info and tips from some pros that can help you to take the most beautiful fireworks photos ever.
First, face your challenges:
- You’ll be shooting at night in low light.
- You’ll shooting fleeting moments.
- Blur is a big threat.
Equip yourself to combat shake and blur during slow shutter speeds:
- Tripod -- Holds your camera steady. We like adjustables to maximum height variation.
- Cable-release -- Eliminate shake during shutter release. We like the wireless kind.
Equip yourself so you don’t run out of firepower:
- Spare battery -- Long exposures suck up lots of juice.
- Spare memory cards -- In case you get super-exuberant.
Scout your location:
- first online to find best displays
- then in person to get set up for best angles, access, etc.
Control yourself:
- Get focused. Forget autofocus. Manual is better for grabbing quick bursts of light.
- Manually control aperture (mid-range is best) and shutter speed (low and slow).
Trip the light fantastic:
- Low ISO (100-200)
- No flash - it will overexpose
