1. LUOPING, CHINA
With sprawling yellow fields of canola flowers, Luoping China had to make this list. Large rocky hills jut up from the yellow, creating an unforgettable landscape. The area is also known for its honey production.
2. CANOLA FLOWER WALKING FESTIVAL -- SEOGWIPO, KOREA
The Canola Flower Walking Festival, in Seogwipo, Korea, also offers gorgeous fields of the brilliant yellow canola flowers for your spring viewing pleasure.
The festival is held in the Jeju sculpture garden, and attendants can spend as much time as they’d like enjoying both the sea of yellow flowers and the deep blue waters of the ocean off the Seogwipo coastline.
3. SKAGIT VALLEY -- WASHINGTON, USA
The volcanic soil of the Skagit Valley in Washington State is great for growing bulbs, and is home to several bulb farms. When the daffodils are in bloom, oceans of yellow rise and swell. And if you want a little more color diversity, head there to see the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.
4. HUANGLONG -- SICHUAN, CHINA
“Huanglong” means “Yellow Dragon“ in Chinese. It is the name of a place in the Minshan mountain range in Sichuan, China. Go there to see the colorful naturally terraced travertine-lined pools where the Yellow Dragon might have bathed.
Magnificent lakes, beaches, caves. forests, waterfalls, hot springs, and mountains, and mountains await you. And if you are lucky, you might catch a glimpse of the endangered Giant Panda and Sichuan Golden Snub-nosed Monkey.
Huanglong was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
5. ST. VOLODYMYR’S CATHEDRAL -- KIEV, UKRAINE
The beautiful yellow St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral in Kiev, Ukraine, built in 1859, is known for its striking color inside and outside. The interior is painted by Venetian masters.
The building was designed in the neo-Byzantine style, with six piers and seven cupolas.
This was one of the earliest crowdfunding projects. In 1852, people from all over the Russian empire donated a total of more than 100,000 rubles towards the construction of a large cathedral to commemorate the 900th anniversary of the baptism of Kievan Rus' by prince Vladimir I of Kiev (St. Volodymyr).
6. TARAS SHEVCHENKO UNIVERSITY -- KIEV, UKRAINE
Kiev has another yellow building, with an even more intense hue. It is part of the Taras Shevchenko University one of the oldest universities in Ukraine, founded in 1834. Its yellow building, seen here, serves as the humanities building for the university and was built by renowned architect Alexander Vikentiyovych Beretti in 1959.
7. HERRENHAUSEN GARDENS -- HANOVER, GERMANY
The Herrenhausen Gardens in Hanover Germany consist of four, centuries old, gardens renowned for their beauty. Some are elegant English style, while one, the Berggarten, is a more simple and rustic vegetable garden. In it, sits a bright beautiful yellow library and gallery building. Check out the eccentric rainforest house, full of tropical flora and fauna.
8. YELLOW MANSION -- PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC
This beautiful Neo Renaissance yellow palace stands on Zofin, an island in the middle of the river on the Slovansky Ostrov in Prague.
The building hosted many formal balls before becoming home to the Academy of Music, where Smetana, Dvorak, Liszt, Berlioz, Tchaikovsky and Wagner all performed.
9. ART PAVILION -- ZAGREB, CROATIA
The lemon yellow Art Pavilion was originally constructed in Hungary, before being transported to Zagreb in 1898. We love the pale sky blue roofs as they contrast and set off the yellow.
It is the oldest gallery in Southeast Europe and is the only one in Zagreb capable of holding large scale exhibitions. The gallery is renowned for its national art, focused on Croatian artists.
10. SCHÖNBRUNN PALACE -- VIENNA, AUSTRIA
The Schönbrunn Palace was the summer residence of the Habsburg dynasty. It began as a modest hunting lodge, known as Katterburg, in 1548. But the Habsburgs transformed it, over the next few hundred years, into a 1,441 room bright yellow baroque palace. It was finished of by Maria Theresa in the mid 18th century.
Check out the magnificent gardens, while you are there. In 1996 UNESCO listed the palace and gardens as a World Heritage Site noting that the palace, along with its gardens, is a remarkable baroque example of “synthesis of the arts.”
