TATIANA SHKONDINA

Tatiana Shkondina creates new realities with food. The Russian photographer and food stylist recreates paintings by Salvador Dalí, Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, and other masters, using food as her medium.

Inspired by “Three Sunflowers in a Vase,” by Vincent Van Gogh.Inspired by Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” masterpiece, Shkondina, who is also a bona fide foodie, first began her food-based series just last year.

Inspired by “The Son of Man,” by René Magritte.

Using real food -- everything from pancake batter to caviar -- Shkondina carefully constructs the compositions, matching color, shape, and texture, to mimic the original paintings.

Because she works only with fresh food, after she photographs each of her works, her materials need to be discarded. In a way, it is art that does the digestion here.

Inspired by “The Persistence of Memory,” by Salvador Dalí.

Each piece takes between 1.5 and 4.5 hours to compose, style, and shoot. Working from sketches, Shkondina takes great care to get each component as close to the original as possible.

PROJECT NOURISHED

What if you could indulge in any food you like without consuming any calories? What if you could drink as many cocktails as you like, and get as tipsy as you like for as long as you like, then become sober instantly as soon as you want to?

Project Nourished.

Project Nourished, a new virtual reality experience, designed by Kokiri Lab, brings this new reality to life. It mimics the experience of eating and drinking using an Oculus Rift VR headset and specially-created technology.

A specially-designed "gyroscopic utensil, a virtual cocktail glass, and an aroma diffuser help produce the simulations.

Project Nourished.

Algae and yeast-based jelly offers some taste appeal and a "bone conduction transducer" mimics the sounds of chewing.

And you can “dine” in any location you desire, be it factual or fictional, such as dining in clouds with Peter Pan in Neverland.

Project Nourished.

Beyond the novelty, this technology could be used to help children develop healthy eating habits and offer therapy for patients suffering from eating disorders.

Project Nourished essential turns food into a piece of code which can ultimately also allow it to insert nutrients and remove nutrients.
