BN FAVES: BEAUTIFUL EDIBLE EMBELLISHMENTS
We love to make beautiful food -- food that looks at least as good as it tastes. Sometimes we like to go over the top and create edible art. And cake is one of the best vehicles for embellishment.
We’ve got 10 amazingly embellished cakes to share today. Some are incredibly intricate and grandiose, some are elegant in their simplicity. They are all spectacular.
1. TOPSY TURVEY CAKE
This is a cool combo of whimsy and delicacy. The layers appear to teeter totter as they balance on piles of white blossoms, with graceful branches reaching out on either sidedness as if to attempt to maintain balance.
This and other beautifully embellished cakes are available from The Sweetest Thing Cake Studio.
2. HAND-PAINTED BOXES CAKE
This hand-painted edible cake from Fashionably Cake is like a stack of Limoges porcelain boxes. The top square cake is quilted pale blue with silver dragee studs. The middle tier is decorated with hand painted edible gold scrolls and a pearl edge. And the bottom tier is hand-painted in blue stripes.
Fashionably Cake, combines a passion for pastry arts with the color and design aesthetics that come from over 16 years of fashion design experience.
3. WHITE FLOWER TOWER CAKE
Sylvia Weinstock is has been the reigning queen of cake for the past 30 years. She has created some of the most beautiful pieces of cake art ever. That’s why so many celebs and other VIPs will only consider a cake from her bakery.
Weinstock’s cakes are not only beautiful, but they are also some of the most delicious cakes. She uses the crème de la crème of ingredients -- the finest butter, heavy cream, fresh fruit, and the most luscious chocolate to create the most memorable delectable creations.
4. METALLIC GOLD FLORAL CAKE
Metallic wedding details and accents are hot right now! And although, Pink and Milk has been blogging about Metallic Wedding Cakes for the last 3 years, 2014 seems to be the year where gold and silver cakes are really making a strike.
5. ANGLO-SAXON PENDANT MUSEUM CAKE
Some people now celebrate June 19th as Museum Cake Day, a theme started by Culture Themes, which encourages museums to share their images of cake: cake in art, cake as art, cakes used for museum party cake, or anything else just as long as it involves cake.
The team at the Corinium Museum immersed themselves in producing a masterpiece. They sent out a call to all bakers across the council to design a cake for the Museum taking inspiration from our archaeological collections.
Laura, who works on the museum’s reprographics team, stepped up to the cake plate. Her cake is based on a rare and beautiful gold Anglo-Saxon pendant on display in the museum’s Saxon gallery.
6. FINE PORCELAIN CAKE
The Outrageous Cake Company created this beautiful confection that is another take on a porcelain box set. Their motto: "UNIQUE CAKES FOR UNIQUE PEOPLE."
With special flavors like Lemon Madeira, Chocolate Orange, Coffee Walnut, and Coconut Lime, each cake is a total package for deliciousness.
7. COTTON BALL CAKE
This is a beautiful cake that is both delicate and rustic at the same time.
Rustic style weddings are hugely popular. Cotton sprigs, pine cones, and wild red berries are just a few of the embellishments we see.
8. PERIWINKLE BUTTERCREAM CAKE
A La Tart has mastered the art of delicious fondant cakes. And that is more important than it sounds. Most fondants look cool but taste fairly nasty.
This cake, by wedding cake designer, Ruth Drennan is a star, Each flower takes a lot of attention to detail, time and care. Many of these flowers take days or weeks to make.
9. CHOCOLATE LAYER CAKE WITH VANILLA BUTTERCREAM & RASPBERRY FILLING
Simple, yet elegant, this chocolate layer cake, with vanilla buttercream-raspberry filling and frosted with pink and white vanilla buttercream, by Steven SIlva, is a dream!
With an easy, yet brilliant flower petal decorating technique, it is one of the prettiest cake decorating techniques we have seen that can be easily done in a home kitchen.
10. PAINTED CUPCAKES
Insanely Cakes is a cake company based in the heart of Kent, UK. They bake bespoke cakes / cupcakes, using the finest quality fair trade ingredients as well as free range eggs and the finest quality vanilla extract.
