HEARTS & HOMES FOR PETS IN NEED
The beauty of kindness comes from the heart. One of the most heartfelt acts of kindness is to open your home and your family by adopting someone who is all alone in the world.
Millions of animals rescued from abuse, abandonment, natural disasters, and other dire situations, are in need of homes. In addition to shelter, food, and basic care, they need love. They need humans who care. They need forever families.
Organizations like the Petco Foundation, the ASPCA, and Petfinder, work with hundreds of smaller rescue and adoption services to help care for animal adoption hopefuls and to help find them loving homes. We’ve shared some earlier in this post. We’ve got more to share now.
We’ve selected a few to showcase and share with you. Perhaps you can show some kindness -- adopt, volunteer and or donate much needed help? Check them out below.
1. PET HAVEN
Pet Haven helps dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care, based in northern Minnesota. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they are able to be adopted by their forever families. Pet Haven provides all of basic needs for the animals it rescues, including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.
Through in-home fostering, Pet Haven staffers learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. This helps them to best find the best family for each dog and cat.
Pet Haven spays/neuters every pet prior to adoption. Pet Haven does not euthanize animals unless they have an untreatable health or behavioral condition that denies them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
The Pet Haven Owner Surrender program provides a safe haven for pet owners.

2. PET FINDER
Petfinder is an online, searchable database of animals who need homes. It is also a directory of nearly 14,000 animal shelters and adoption organizations across the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Organizations maintain their own home pages and available-pet databases.
Petfinder’s mission is to:
-
Increase public awareness of the availability of high-quality adoptable pets
-
Increase the overall effectiveness of pet adoption programs across North America to the extent that the euthanasia of adoptable pets is eliminated
-
Elevate the status of pets to that of family member
Over the course of the past 20 years, Petfinder has found homes for over 25 million pets.
Petfinder also includes discussion forums, a pet-care resource directory and a library of free pet-care articles to help keep pets in their homes. The listings of adoptable pets on Petfinder is updated daily, so be sure to check often.
3. FRONT RANGE EQUINE RESCUE (FRER)
Front Range Equine Rescue (FRER) is a non-profit organization working to prevent the abuse and neglect of horses through rescue, education, and adoption placements.
Front Range works with a northern Colorado rescue organization to save at-risk horses from the slaughter pipeline. Horses are kept at a private farm under the supervision of Shiloh Acres Horse Rescue.
Check out Front Range events, education, special programs, and advocacy continue in Colorado to help end horse slaughter and “Save the Wild Horses.” And check out these horses currently available for adoption at FRER.
4. SOCIAL TEES ANIMAL RESCUE
Social Tees Animal Rescue is a not-for-profit, strictly no-kill organization, based in New York City, that takes abandoned animals from kill shelters and provides them with safe haven and veterinary care before placing them in proper forever homes.
Social Tees rescues, rehabilitates, and places over 3,000 dogs, cats, birds, and exotics per year. They work closely with the ASPCA, the North Shore Animal League, and Petco. They have also partnered with rescue groups in Tennessee and California, where the euthanasia rates are higher than they are in the northeast, helping them find forever homes for hundreds of animals annually.

5. DAN WRIGHT - NYC PET PHOTOS
“I was looking for a career that would allow me to be artistic while also doing some good in the world. This is why I often donate my time and services to photograph pets that are in need of a loving home. Currently, I am working with Social Tees Animal Rescue.
If you are a part of or know of any organizations that are looking for professional photos of their adoptable pets, please send Wright their information via his contact form.
