THE MANY BEAUTIES OF WILD VIOLETS NOW
WILD VIOLETS
Wild violets are beautiful bright spots in our lawns and the edges of the woods and forest each spring. While they are considered weeds, by many, they are joys to us. We wouldn’t consider getting rid of them!
The waxy coating on their shiny leaves makes wild violets difficult to eradicate anyway, so don’t fight them -- embrace their beauty!
BeautifulNow friend, Mike McGrath, of You Bet Your Garden, notes that early lawns were designed to have pretty things, like clover and wild violets, sprout up amidst the grasses.
By the time the lawn is ready for its first Spring haircut, the violet flowers will have faded and the leaves will have absorbed enough solar energy to prime them for next year’s blooms.
Wild violets thrive in acidic soil. They also prefer soils that are deficient in calcium. So keep that in mind if you fertilize your lawn.
We love to create delicate bouquets of wild violets to bring little bursts of Spring into our homes. They have a subtle sophisticated sweet powdery scent.
If you adore the scent of wild violets like we do, check out some beautiful perfumes that feature wild violet fragrance notes: Angel Garden Of Stars - Violette Angel (Thierry Mugler), Ultraviolet (Paco Rabanne), La Violette (Annick Goutal), & Oscar Violet (Oscar de la Renta).
Another way to enjoy wild violets is to eat them! They are an excellent source of Vitamins A & C, as well as of rutin, a hard-to-find nutrient that strengthens capillary walls, preventing or reversing the visible effects of varicose and spider veins.
