1. VELASSARU -- MALDIVES

The Water Bungalows at Velassaru Maldives all come with their own private pools. The pools merge with the shimmering turquoise lagoon that surrounds. 

2. BELMOND HOTEL CARUSO -- RAVELLO, ITALY

The spectacular infinity pool at Belmond Hotel Caruso, in Ravello, Italy, is an architectural masterpiece. Set at the highest point above the town, the pool feels like it is suspended in the clouds, with an unparalleled vista. Catch breathtaking views of the coastline below.

Relax in the gently heated water. The concierge can set you up with an iPod pre-loaded with your choice of music, cocktails, snacks, and other poolside goodies.

Of course the pool is attached to this gorgeous hotel, a former 11th century palace set on cliffs beside the Amalfi Coast.

3. CHONGWE RIVER HOUSE -- ZAMBIA, AFRICA

Chongwe River House, designed by renowned architect Neil Rocher, is inspired by the towering spires of termitariums. Curving walls follow organic lines, as do the pools, which seem as though they flow as part of the adjacent river.

The Chongwe area is famous for huge male elephants which you can watch as you swim.

4. SAN ALFONSO DEL MAR -- ALGARROBO, CHILE

The world’s largest swimming pool is located at the San Alfonso del Mar resort in Algarrobo, Chile.

At its deepest, the pool 115 feet deep. It is more than 1 km in length. It covers 8 eight hectares and holds 250 million liters of water. That’s equivalent to 6,000 standard size pools.

It is filled with seawater and heated naturally by the sun to 80 degrees. There is a temperature controlled beach which sits under a glass pyramid, for use in winter.

5. THE CAMBRIAN -- ADELBODEN, SWITZERLAND

The infinity pool at The Cambrian, in Adelboden, Switzerland, hangs out over a pristine vista in the Swiss Alps. You get stunning 360° views of mountains, cow pastures on the surrounding hillsides. After soaking in the scenery, check out the award-winning spa.

6. THE ST. REGIS LHASA RESORT -- TIBET

Check out the Gold Energy Pool at The St. Regis Lhasa Resort, in Tibet. It is truly a bejewelled vessel, filled with seawater, kept at a constant water temperature of 28-32℃. Views of the resort's lake and the Himalaya Palace add to the ambiance.

7. ALILA VILLAS ULUWATU -- BALI, INDONESIA

Swim in a cliffside pools right next to your villa at the Alila Villas Uluwatu, in Bali. The resort sits high on a plateau, along limestone cliffs that face the ocean. The views are incredible.

The unique flat lava rock roofs and bamboo ceilings of the villa allows the gentle sea breeze to circulate freely throughout all rooms. Planes of wood, water, stone and rattan are contemporary interpretations of traditional Balinese design. Walkways and bridges connect the relaxation pavilions and pools to the spacious living areas.

8. OBEROI UDAIVILAS -- LAKE PICHOLA, INDIA

The deep blue tiled pool at the The Oberoi, Udaivilas, India, glows azure in the sunlight. After sunset, light from flaming torches dances across the water. Sandstone columns and fountains sporting elephants spouting water from their trunks, are all part of Rajasthani splendour.

The resort sits on the bank of Lake Pichola, in the middle of the 200 year old hunting grounds of the Maharana of Mewar. It spans 50 acres, including a 20-acre wildlife sanctuary with deer and wild boar.

9. JUMEIRAH DHEVANAFUSHI -- MALDIVES

The starry lit pool at Jumeirah Dhevanafushi resort in the Maldives will have you feeling like you are in heaven on earth.

Nestled at the southern end of the Maldives in the heart of the Indian Ocean, Jumeirah Dhevanafushi stretches across two islands. It is a treasure, with lush foliage, crystal blue waters and endless white sand beaches. When you want a break from the pool, go for a swim among the extraordinary coral reefs here.
