Glyndebourne Festival

Now - August 25 (2013)

Lewes, East Sussex, UK

With the goddess Diana singing to you from the inside of an ice-box, you’ll get an elegant chill and thrill seeing “Hippolyte et Aricie” at The Glyndebourne Festival.

Glyndebourne is a world-class home for opera, holding 6 productions a year in their state-of-the-art 1200-seat opera house, with two resident orchestras: the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. But summertime, during the Festival, is the best time.

The grounds are a gorgeous place for a stroll or a picnic before the performance. Or you can choose to dine more formally inside the estate house. You might want to wear your prettiest floatiest summer gown or a seersucker suit, as many dress up to rival those on stage. Sip champagne, watch the sheep grazing in the far meadow, ogle at the proper English gardens tumbling over with heavy blossoms, then make your way inside and let the music lift you to another place altogether.

We featured Hippolyte yesterday, in our post "Coolest Art & Design" along with other awesome ice art, so check that out if you missed it.

It’s intense! Why? Well... because you drink ayahuasca, a nasty tasting psychoactive elixir derived from the Banisteriopsis caapi vine mixed with DMT from the admixture plants (Psychotria viridis or Diplopterys cabrerana). Wait.... there’s more... You eat some nasty-tasting hallucinogenic San Pedro cactus (Echinopsis pachanoi)..... Then you settle into a beautiful deep-dive inside yourself and a widening array of multi-faceted connections with the world around you. To get a better idea of what you are in for, check out David Crews’ well-documented blog.

Stay at the “Soga Del Alma Chapel” (Vine of the Soul Chapel) and get to and from the conference site by canoe on the Rio Itaya river.

You might also want to try some magical pre and post conference experiences, called “Intensives.” You can choose to chill out in flower and clay and herb baths or vapor/herb steams. You might have a fascinating session with the bone setter, Maria Louisa. You might indulge in ceremonies with the esteemed Shaman, Adela Navas. Or you can go on a mind-blowing expedition to Macchu Picchu, a sacred valley, deeper into the Amazon jungle, or a selection of other amazing spiritual sites.
