Maui Waui ain't in Maui. It’s in Suffolk, England. And it rocks. With a lineup that includes Electric Swing Circus, Swing Zazou, Sugar Foot Stomp and more. It’s music. It’s theater. It’s dance. It’s an amalgam of periods and tastes. Hear ‘20s swing marry electrobeats. Hear reggae go all gypsy and jazz. Throw in some Klezmer and some hip-hop. It’s a full tilt boogie.

 

And... enjoy the velvet curtained Cabaret tent, with its charming burlesque. Or listen to some kicking spins at the DJ Lounge tent.

Ars Electronica Festival 2013. Festival for Art, Technology and Society

Ars Electronica is one of the world’s top media art festivals and one of the most important festivals for digital art. Artists, technologists, scientists, and edge-thinkers come together to play, learn, and have a cerebral blast in Linz, Austria, this weekend. Join them for a super-cool lineup of symposia, exhibitions, performances and events designed to engage artistic and scientific thought in a dance. This is a spark soup, that heats up every year, as it has since the festival debuted in 1979. What emerges ultimately changes our world -- and the way we see it.

 

This year’s theme is TOTAL RECALL. Neuroscientists, computer engineers, philosophers, and artists consider our our memories and their processes of remembering and forgetting in an experimental setting.

"The Room of Gazes," a work by Mariano Sardón and Mariano Sigman (AR), is one of a myriad of projects on view at the festival.  Festival goers will observe a darkened room with several big screens. They can watch how images of portraits are created over time by the gazes of Ars Electronica Festival visitors. The visitors can participate in two ways: their gaze can be captured by the “eye tracker” or they can contribute a portrait picture of themselves.

 

u19 – CREATE YOUR WORLD is a festival within a festival for kids and young adults, with 123 labs, workshops, exhibitions, concerts, and performances.

 

Create your own lightworks art in the light lab. Or participate in creating global sounds in the multimedia interactive art installation. Build Utopia. You can do it all this weekend in Linz.

Bellyfest 2013

If you’re more in the mood to work out your body groove and let your mind mellow out a bit, you might like Bellyfest 2013, aka the 7th Annual Philippine Bellydance Festival. Swirl your hips and shimmy for 3 whole days with a series of dance workshops and performances. Fuel up at the food bazaar and get ready for the Grand Show, featuring bellydance superstar, Ms. Kami Liddle, Jill Ngo, and the Goddesses of Bellydance.

 

You’ll learn a lot in Kami Liddle Workshops, including how to work a fluid upper body, how to smooth out your movements, and modern fusion choreography, to name a few.

The 15th Annual Los Angeles & Greek Festival (LA Greekfest)

A big fat Greek festival is happening this week at the LA Greek Fest, an iconic food and wine festival. You'll find great Greek food, wine, traditional music, dancing, and fun. LA Greekfest 2013 will be hosted by honorary chairs and co-hosts Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. All proceeds benefit Saint Sophia Cathedral and its newly built community center, The Huffington Center, and to help further develop the surrounding community.

 

Take a tour of Saint Sophia Cathedral, a world-renowned architectural and national landmark. Check out the ZORBA Dance Contest. Take a Greek cooking class. Or just kick back and crunch through some baklava, have an ouzo, and plan your next trip to Santorini.
