THE INTENSITY OF COLOR & SPIRIT IN REFRACTIONS NOW

Intensity begets intensity.
The winter sun was shining brightly when photographer Jessica Hines noticed an intense rainbow reflecting of the surface of the swamp near her house in southeast Georgia. She captured the colored light in a way that channels an otherworldly vibe.
Hines became intrigued by the rainbow patches pooling around the trees in the swampy water. They form when a natural combination of plant oils and pollen form a film on the surface, refracting the low angles of light, which emanate from the sun every January -- kind of like the rainbow swirls in soap bubbles.
She took dozens of photos over time, as she continued to explore the landscape, wading out into the middle of the swamp so she could get closer to the intensity of the color.
The images feel magical or spiritual. They form a series titled Spirit Stories. Hines is very much concerned with capturing the spirit of this land and the life it supports.
